Fassbinder died aged 36 shortly after completing this film, fittingly his tribute to the gay lifestyle he himself had lived. In the seaport of Brest, men and women alike fall for the charms of handsome sailor Querelle, who only comes to terms with his homosexuality when he visits a brothel. Based on a novel by Jean Genet, himself an overtly homosexual writer. Star Brad Davis died from AIDS in 1991.
